Hal Smith graduated from Canoga Park High School and matriculated to UCLA.  As lineman on the Bruins, he was second team All Coast and honorable mention All-American.  He was also a nationally ranked decathlete for the track and field team for UCLA.

 

Hal was drafted by the Chicago Cardinals and played with the Cardinals, Boston Patriots, and Oakland Raiders as a wide receiver and defensive lineman. Among his many leadership roles, Hal has been a past president of the Los Angeles NFL Retired Players Association, the Southern California NFL Alumni, the Tarzana Chamber of Commerce, the Los Angeles Building Contractors Association, and the California State Building Contractors Association.  He is also the past president of Southern California Striders Track and Field Club.

 

He is a Seniors Master shot put World Record holder for the age group of 65 through 70 (at 49 feet 7 ¾").  Hal is the proprietor of Hal W. Smith Quality Construction and has been so for the past 40 years.  He also worked in government relations in Sacramento for the home improvement industry.  Hal’s priority and first love is “Caring for Kids”.  He has also worked with the YMCA, Goals for Life programs, the Los Angeles Probation Department, Drug Free America, as well as many football clinics for “at risk” children and for the Children of the United States military deployed overseas.  With his many years of service with the Los Angeles Chapter, Hal has been a recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the chapter.
